I went long at The Billfold about my trip to Thailand. Featuring coconuts, passive-aggressive lounge singers, “special” fees for foreigners, and the ineffable difficulties of tipping.
The strangest and funniest airline safety video I’ve ever seen, courtesy of Bangkok Airways. The flight attendants lip-synching while doing the macarena, complete with the pull-out-your-back sexy sway, got me cracking up, but so many other things about this are also great: The pilot’s douchey dubbed English voice! The man at 1:38 who looks so satisfied to have returned his seat to the upright and locked position! The flight attendant at 3:45 who blows oh-so-delicately into his life jacket, as if he’s blowing out a candle and wants to avoid spattering any wax rather than actually trying to inflate something!
Strangely, even though the song and most of the video’s words are in English, I first saw this on an internal Thailand flight. It deserves much, much wider distribution.
